Carlsbad (Calif.) linebacker Rocky Cummings signed with the Texas Longhorns on Wednesday, ending a recruitment that only required three weeks between head coach Steve Sarkisian’s staff extending an offer, securing a visit, and flipping the consensus three-star prospect from the California Golden Bears.
During the summer, Cummings took official visits to Boston College, Cal, and Utah, pledging to the home-state Golden Bears on June 20. When Texas entered his recruitment in early November, however, the Longhorns were able to secure an official visit for the win over the Razorbacks, and the 6’4, 220-pounder only needed a few days to join Sarkisian’s recruiting class.
Cummings also held offers from Arizona, BYU, Colorado State, Minnesota, San Diego State, and San Jose State.
In an illness-shortened junior season, Cummings recorded 29 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in seven games while also playing tight end for Carlsbad.
A consensus three-star prospect, Cummings is ranked as the No. 600 player nationally and the No. 50 linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, becoming the third linebacker to pledge to co-defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen in the 2026 recruiting class.
