The Oklahoma Sooners' defensive line has had a great year in 2025. Hoping to carry that success into the future is an impressive group of defensive linemen joining OU in 2026, and that includes four-star defensive tackle prospect James Carrington.

Carrington signed with the Oklahoma Sooners during the early signing period and will join a defensive line group that will lose R Mason Thomas, Marvin Jones, Jr., Gracen Halton, and Damonic Williams to the NFL after 2025.

Carrington was originally committed to Florida State but chose the Sooners shortly after decommitting from the Seminoles back in August. He also held offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Virginia Tech, Washington, and Wisconsin, among others.

Out of Southern California, Carrington comes in at 6-foot-2 and 257 pounds, according to 247Sports. A standout wrestler in Maryland before moving out west, Carrington has the play strength to be a factor at multiple spots along the defensive line. He has a quick first step off the line of scrimmage and displays a great motor to get after the quarterback.

Carrington will need to add some weight to his frame this offseason to be able to handle the rigors of the SEC, but he has the tools to be a dynamic player inside for Brent Venables' defense.
