It looks like Ohio State will have to wait a little longer on what everyone considers its crown jewel of the 2026 recruiting class, 5-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr.
Henry, the 2026 recruiting cycle’s top receiver, has been locked in with Ohio State since June and has brushed aside many high-profile offers to remain committed all the way through the early signing period, or so we thought. That was all turned upside down when news broke that OSU Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers coach, Brian Hartline, the man responsible for recruiting and developing several 5-star talents, was to be named the head coach of USF.
Reports surfaced later in the day that Henry was sticking with his Ohio State pledge, but then we waited and never received official word from the OSU program. Then, later in the day, we heard from Henry himself via social media on what the real story is, and it’s something that will surely worry Buckeye fans because Henry has decided to take a little more time to decide where to commit.
“I have not signed yet,” wrote Henry on X. “Still trying to weigh my options because of coaching changes I just want to make the right decision for my future.”

Gods plan

This was on the heels of his Mater Dei teammate Kayden Dixon-Wyatt flipping from Ohio State to USC shortly after the Hartline news broke.
So, it looks like Ohio State head coach Ryan Day still has some selling to do. The Buckeyes‘ track record is a good one at wide receiver, better than any other program out there, but there’s no denying the fact that it got even better with Hartline overseeing the room, and you can’t really blame Henry for taking some time to decide what the best fit is for him.
We’ll have more on this as it develops, but for now, things appear to be up in the air with Henry.
