There is a new twist in the recruitment of Chris Henry Jr., the top wide receiver recruit in the country and son of the late Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry.
He verbally committed to Ohio State on July 28, 2023 and was expected to sign with the Buckeyes on Wednesday morning at Mater Dei High School.
The Enquirer reported earlier in the day that he had signed with OSU.
At 2:45 p.m., he posted on X, "I have not signed yet. Still trying to weigh my options due to coaching changes. I just want to make the right decisions for my future."
It was reported that OSU offensive coordinator and receivers coach Brian Hartline was leaving to to take the head coaching job at South Florida. Henry Jr.'s teammate, four-star wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, flipped his commitment from OSU to Southern California.
On April 1, 2025, Henry Jr. shut down his recruitment and canceled previously scheduled official visits to Oregon, Southern California and Miami (Florida). At about 10 p.m. on Dec. 2, he posted a picture of hats from USC, Oregon and Ohio State on his Instagram story, leading many to wonder if he would flip his commitment at the 11th hour
Henry Jr. was raised in Cincinnati by former Bengal Adam "Pacman" Jones, attending West Clermont as a freshman and Withrow as a sophomore. In 2023, he teamed up with Luke Dunn, Terhyon Nichols, Kris Bonner, Quintin Simmons and head coach Kali Jones to help the Tigers set a program record with 12 wins and reach their first regional final. As a sophomore, he caught 71 passes for 1,127 yards and 10 touchdowns.
For the last two years, Henry Jr. has attended Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, playing for one of the top teams in the country.
