Benedictine football coach Danny Britt has an excellent track record of sending Cadet players signing to play at the college level, but Wednesday’s Signing Day in the BC gymnasium is the most impressive signing class yet.
The Cadet catchphrase this season has been about reaching the “next level” and BC did just that with its group of six seniors who signed to play at Division I FBS programs in a ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.
Four-star receiver Bubba Frazier inked his deal with Notre Dame, while 5-star edge LaDamion Guyton, who reclassified as a senior, signed with Texas Tech, along with quarterback Stephen Cannon. Kam Cody, a 4-star defensive tackle, signed with Clemson and offensive tackle Carlton Hall signed with Liberty University. Safety Micah Williams is headed to App State.
It was a day to celebrate the accomplishments of this group of seniors, who will take the field at Memorial Stadium on Friday, Dec. 5, to face Marist in a Class 4A state semifinal with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
“To have six of our guys sign on the early signing day to football programs of this level is very impressive.” said Britt, in his 15th season leading the program. “An personally, as a coach, these are players I truly enjoy being around. They are cool guys and they are all very dedicated. Sometimes, you’ll have players with that kind of talent who aren’t nice to be around, but that’s not the case with this group.
“I told them we’ll celebrate their accomplishments and their signings until 4:15 p.m. today, that’s when we turn our minds back to be focused on beating Marist in the state semifinals on Friday night.”
Here’s a look at the six Cadet standouts who signed on Wednesday.
Bubba Frazier, Notre Dame
Frazier was recently named the Region 1-4A Player of the Year and also won the Finocchiaro Award as the top prep football player in Savannah. He has 46 catches for 631 yards, with 16 total touchdowns this season.
“This means a lot to me to finally make it to play at Notre Dame, and I want to thank the school for giving me the opportunity,” Frazier said. “I also need to thank God, my family, coaches, teammates and friends at BC who helped me get here. My coaches trusted me and helped me become a better player and a better person.
“Now we have our goal in front of us. There is a team trying to stand in our way on Friday night in Marist. Our mindset it to play team ball and to play hungry — we’re going to go out there and earn the win.”
LaDamion Guyton, Texas Tech
The 5-star edge entered the season ranked No. 1 among all positions in the junior class of 2027 by Rivals.com after transferring across town after two seasons with Savannah Christian. He reclassified to the Class of 2026 during the season and will join the Red Raiders in the fall, along with teammate Stephen Cannon.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder has 66 tackles for 14 for losses and six sacks with 23 quarterback hurries on the season. He received his first offer from Georgia before playing a high school down, and Bulldog fans were hoping he might have a change of heart before signing day, but Guyton said once he made the decision, he remained true to it. He also addressed his decision to reclassify and join Texas Tech earlier.
“I feel like God has a plan for everybody, and once I made my commitment I was sticking to it,” Guyton said. “Playing for Coach Britt has helped me because he coaches you hard and holds you accountable. I reclassified because it was an opportunity to help my family, and that’s a chance I’m going to take 100 times out of 100.”
Stephen Cannon, Texas Tech
The standout quarterback was recently named the Region 1-4A Offensive Player of the Year. He has been getting it done with his arm and his legs in a Cadet offense that he conducts with efficiency.
Cannon has completed 65% of his throws for 1,908 yards with 22 touchdown passes and just four interceptions, while rushing for 537 yards and seven more scores.
“Today means a lot to me because it shows that all my hard work has paid off,” said Cannon, who was also an accomplished sprinter with the Cadet track and field team. “And it’s a huge relief to sign today. I chose Tech because it had a family feel and I liked the culture. Coach (offensive coordinator Mack) Leftwich and (head) coach (Joey) McGuire have a vision for the future, and I think I fit in well with the offense.”
Kam Cody, Clemson
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive tackle was recently named the Region 1-4A Defensive Player of the Year. Cody’s back story is an amazing one as he suffered a cardiac event as a sophomore at a practice that nearly cost him his life.
But Cody never quit and was back in the starting lineup for the Cadets to start his junior season. He won the Courage Award at the Coastal Empire Awards show after his junior year.
This year Cody has 73 tackles with 13 for losses and 5.5 sacks.
“This day is a blessing for me, it’s been a long time coming,” Cody said. “I’ve wanted to go to Clemson since I was in the seventh grade. I’ve got family on the team, my cousin Champ Thompson is a defensive lineman there. So he helped set the blue print for me — Clemson has family vibes for me, and I can’t wait to play there.”
Micah Williams, App State
The standout safety has been coming on strong with four interceptions in three playoff games among his six picks on the season. He also has 41 tackles.
Williams, a gifted and versatile athlete, was also a standout guard on the Cadet basketball team.
“I started playing football when I was four years old and I’ve always dreamed of this day,” Williams said. “The older kids who signed in front of me set a good example, and Coach Britt has been great. He coaches with a lot of discipline and that prepares you for the next level.”
Carlton Hall, Liberty University
The 6-foot-4, 296-pound offensive tackle waited for this moment patiently. He had to sit out his sophomore year after transferring from Jenkins, and then missed his junior season after suffering a knee injury in the first game of the season.
But he kept his head down and kept working and is now the senior leader on an offensive line that paved the way for 570 yards rushing and 11 rushing scores in a blowout playoff win over Central-Carrollton last week.
Hall committed to Middle Tennessee State on Thanksgiving Day, but flipped to Liberty University soon thereafter.
“To be honest, Liberty was my first choice, and I was just waiting on that call,” Hall said. “I like the coaches up there, and I’m super excited and blessed to get the change to play the sport I love in college. I have to thank all my coaches, teammates and my family for helping me get here.”
