When Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer led the Washington Huskies to the College Football Playoff title game two years ago, he had a future first-round NFL draft pick in Rome Odunze, a 6-foot-4 giant of a wide receiver. Odunze knew how to use that size to beat smaller cornerbacks for receptions and was a perfect fit in DeBoer’s offense.
Could Cederian Morgan be the next Odunze?
That remains to be seen, but the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Morgan, a 4-star signee from Benjamin Russell High, has DeBoer excited about his future with the Crimson Tide — as does his multi-sport background.
“Cederian is a basketball guy, so he’s got that athleticism. Track, he’s a 6-8 high jumper, or close to that, so he’s a big guy that can get up. Just different ways he gets the ball in his hands in their offense, it shows off what he can do as an athlete,” DeBoer said. “… I think you want to have a mix of guys, but he certainly fills that area as far as being a bigger, longer type guy who plays big. He plays bigger than what he is from a catch radius standpoint.”
Morgan chose Alabama over Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Colorado, among other top offers. Morgan posted back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons as a junior and senior in high school. The Crimson Tide will lose its most productive receiver, Germie Bernard, who will be out of NCAA eligibility after the current season.
