The Oklahoma Sooners are patiently waiting for Selection Sunday on December 7th, where they expect to see their name on the 12-team College Football Playoff bracket, and hope that they’ll be hosts in the first round.

With conference championship week upon us, most teams are in the same boat as the Sooners, waiting and watching to see where they’ll end up in the postseason. Most seasons are complete, and one final Saturday sits between the teams and judgement day.

While we all wait, USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg updated his rankings of all 136 FBS teams after Week 14’s action. All but two programs have played 12 games so far in 2025, with the exception of Navy and Army, who will finish their regular seasons against each other in a couple of weeks. A total of 18 teams across nine conferences (Sorry, Pac-12) will be taking part in Game 13 this week, battling for a conference title. Then of course, bowl season and the playoff will be upon us, beginning in mid-December. Basically, any team that is playing games after this point has earned its place in that game.

Myerberg once again has OU as his No. 8 team in the rankings, with no movement from the week prior. That puts the Sooners behind only Georgia, Texas A&M and Ole Miss in the SEC. It also means that Oklahoma is ranked ahead of Alabama, Vanderbilt, Texas, Tennessee and Missouri in the top 30 teams on the list.

After beating the LSU Tigers in a must-win game last week, the Sooners would need utter chaos and questionable decision-making from the CFP committee if they were to be somehow left out of the playoff. Their résumé speaks for itself as one of the best in the country, with Brent Venables and his team navigating the hardest schedule in the nation to a 10-win regular season.
