“Its Only a Matter of Time,” Greg Schiano Hosts National Signing Day Press Conference

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano hosted his annual national signing day press conference to discuss the recruits the team just signed, how they brought them in, what they bring to the table, and the overall future of the Scarlet Knights football program.

The first question that Schiano was asked in the press conference had to do with what he liked in their new quarterback, Xavier Stearn. He talked about how he is a tremendous athlete who can throw the ball with some zip on it, before he went on to talk about how there is no incumbent starter at Rutgers right now and that there will be a quarterback competition.

A few minutes later in the press conference, Schiano was asked how the success of wide receivers like KJ Duff and Ian Strong has helped them recruit highly rated receivers in this class. Schiano acknowledged how their success helps them immensely in that area before going on to praise wide receivers coach Dave Brock and John McNulty.

After a question was asked about how they landed recent DB flip from Louisville Devonte Anderson, Schiano praised running backs coach Damiere Shaw and how much he has done with recruiting for this program. Shaw has set himself apart as one of the most elite recruiters on Rutgers’ staff. He mentioned how it was his willingness to keep in contact and keep checking in that allowed the Knights to have a chance to flip Anderson.

The last question that Schiano was asked during the press conference pertained to whether he was confident that the necessary resources and funds would be available to address their needs in the transfer portal.

“I am. It’s a great question. I am. We are working our tails off. Keli and her people are working their tails off. Everybody is on one mission. And as we said to each other after that tough loss. 26 starts tomorrow morning. So get up. Everybody get up, get ready to fight and let’s go. We got work to do”

Schiano’s Closing Message

Schiano ended his press conference with a message to everybody surrounding the Rutgers football community.

“It is only a matter of time. That would be my message to our fans. That would be my message to the recruits we are signing. That would be the message to the guys on our football team. It’s only a matter of time, and these guys are certainly going to be a big help in that effort.”

Schiano also takes the time in his press conference to dive into specific attributes he wants to see when he recruits each position.
