It’s performance bonus season for Kirby Smart.
The Georgia football coach could earn up to $1.55 million depending on how the Bulldogs do this month and next, according to the terms of the 10-year contact he signed last year.
Smart already will receive $100,000 for the Bulldogs reaching Saturday’s SEC Championship game in Atlanta and that will increase to $300,000 should Georgia beat Alabama.
The Bulldogs are in position to reach the College Football Playoffs win or lose Saturday.
That’s worth at least another $250,000 and increases every step of the way.
If Georgia is in the CFP quarterfinals — which it will be if it wins the SEC — the playoff bonus goes up to $500,000.
Reach the CFP semifinals, it goes up to $750,000.
A trip the CFP national championship increases the payout to $850,000.
If Georgia wins the national title — something it did in 2021 and 2022 — Smart would receive $1.25 million.
Smart’s annual pay from the school this year is $13.003 million, which was the highest nationally in the latest USA Today salary survey.
