ESPN’s “College GameDay” is staying out west for Week 11 of the 2025 college football season.
Host Rece Davis, former Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, and fellow analysts Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit will be in Lubbock, Texas, for the top 10 showdown in the Big 12 between the BYU Cougars and Texas Tech Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadium.
It’s the second week in a row that “GameDay” has visited a Big 12 location after traveling to Salt Lake City for Cincinnati vs. Utah last Saturday. And it’s only the second time “GameDay” has visited Lubbock; the last time it happened was on Nov. 1, 2008, when Texas Tech stunned No. 1 Texas on a 28-yard Graham Harrell touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree with 1 second left.
Saturday will mark the first time that Saban has visited Lubbock in any official capacity; he never coached there as a visiting coach while at Alabama, or previously LSU or Michigan State.
Why Texas Tech is trendy pick to host College GameDay
Texas Tech (7-1, 5-1) and BYU (8-0, 5-0 conference) are the top teams in the Big 12 standings. The Cougars are ranked No. 8 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll; the Red Raiders (7-1) are No. 9.
Only one other head-to-head matchup on the Week 11 schedule — No. 3 Texas A&M at No. 17 Missouri — involves two ranked opponents.
Texas Tech is a trendy pick to host “GameDay” because of its high-stakes matchup against BYU, and because the school has been in the news a lot this season. In the NIL arms race, the Red Raiders have positioned themselves well across multiple sports thanks to billionaire booster Cody Campbell and others.
Texas Tech advanced to the Women’s College World Series finals this summer, and its men’s basketball team reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before falling to national champion Florida in the West Region final in San Francisco.
Football is obviously its own separate beast, and the Red Raiders’ aspirations on the gridiron this season not only include a Big 12 title, but a deep run through the College Football Playoff. Texas Tech’s offense is tied for third nationally in scoring offense this season with 43.6 points per game.
In their seven wins, the Red Raiders have outscored opponents by an average of 31.3 points per game (third nationally).
BYU is no slouch, either. The Cougars are averaging 36.2 points per game, good for 19th nationally. They’ve outscored opponents by average of 19 points per game.
Alabama football schedule 2025
The Alabama Crimson Tide (7-1 overall, 5-0 SEC) return to action this Saturday against the LSU Tigers (5-3, 2-3) at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff for Alabama-LSU is 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC.
The Crimson Tide are ranked No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll following their Week 10 bye. Alabama rallied past South Carolina for a 29-22 win at Williams-Brice Stadium in their last game on Oct. 25.
LSU is also coming off a bye after a 49-25 loss to Texas A&M at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge in its most recent game. The Tigers fired coach Brian Kelly the following day and named Frank Wilson as interim coach.
