Dec. 5—***

The first Saturday in December is either my favorite day of the year or a very close second.

Starting at 11 a/m. and lasting about 12 hours, there will be nonstop action.

The most important tool for my experience is my DVR. I am set to record every game, will start watching about 20 minutes after 11 and keep the commercial interruptions to a minimum. If I have to run and get a snack that's why I have a pause button. Often when I attend a game live, I wish I could hit pause or rewind the previous play. Maybe AI can figure out how to do it.

The games in the early window are the MAC championship between Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan. I'm picking the Broncos in a close one.

The other 11 a.m. game is the Big 12 championship with major CFP implications. Texas Tech is likely already in, but BYU probably needs the win.

Georgia-Alabama kicks off at 3 p.m. and from my vantage point is a seeding game. Both teams are in the CFP. If Georgia wins, it gets a first-round bye. If it loses, both teams go into CFP gen pop.

Likewise in the late window, Ohio State and Indiana are playing for seeds. The winner will be No. 1 and the loser could drop a spot or two. But they are both getting byes, which means a free pass t the quarterfinal.

The game that has everyone nervous is the ACC title game at 7. Virginia is in the CFP with a win. No disputing that fact. But what happens is 7-5 Duke wins and remains behind five other conference champs in the final CFP standings.

My theory is that not wanting to stiff the ACC again (remember Florida State?) the committee will find a way to squeeze Miami into the field.

Should be a lot of fun. Make sure you have plenty of snacks on hand.
