Colorado football loses its top 2026 recruit after back-to-back blowout losses

On the same day the Colorado Buffaloes received their first commitment for the 2027 class, they lost their top-rated 2026 commit.

Four-star defensive lineman Emanuel Ruffin committed to Colorado in late September and immediately became their top recruit. He chose the Buffs over Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU and Ohio State.

Those four schools, along with Missouri, which he visited last month, seem to be the likely teams courting Ruffin now that his recruitment is reopened.

247Sports Composite ranks Ruffin as the No. 197 overall player, the No. 26 defensive lineman and the No. 12 player from his home state of Alabama.

Considering the state of the Colorado football program — coming off back-to-back blowout losses and with no public answers on how to fix the problems — decommitments should not come as a surprise.

Wins and honest accountability would do a world of good for the Buffaloes at this time, and that starts this weekend against West Virginia in a challenging road environment.
