The OregonDucks are promoting current co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Drew Mehringer to the full-time OC position, Ducks Wire cacn confirm. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz had the first report.
Mehringer will be Lanning’s third offensive coordinator in his four seasons in Eugene.
The position opened up when Will Stein accepted the head coaching position with the Kentucky Wildcats. Stein replaced Kenny Dillingham, who went to Arizona State after one season in Eugene.
Mehringer joined Lanning’s coaching staff at Oregon as the tight ends coach on Jan. 4, 2022. He is known as one of the nation’s top recruiters after helping Texas and Houston bring in the top classes. He’s been instrumental in the development of tight ends Terrance Ferguson and Kenyon Sadiq, who is one of the tight ends in the country.
“Drew is one of the top young offensive minds in college football with an impressive history coaching multiple different positions,” Lanning said at the time of his initial hiring in 2022. “He was once the youngest play caller in the Power 5, and that experience will be very beneficial as we develop our offense. Our student-athletes are going to love working with Coach Mehringer and will learn a ton from him both as football players and as young men.”
Stein will stay on the job through Oregon’s playoff run.
