Jerry Mack wins Conference USA title over former Tennessee assistant

Kennesaw State (10-3) defeated Jacksonville State (8-5), 19-15, on Friday in the Conference USA championship game. The game was contested at AmFirst Stadium in Jacksonville, Alabama. 18,142 were in attendance.

Kennesaw State is in its first season with Jerry Mack as head coach. He served as Tennessee’s running backs coach from 2021-23.

Amari Odom completed 26-of-32 passing attempts for 246 yards and one touchdown for the Owls. Christian Moore was Kennesaw State’s leader in receiving yards (75).

Kennesaw State running back Coleman Bennett totaled 82 rushing yards and one touchdown on 17 attempts for the Owls.

The Conference USA championship game also featured Charles Kelly. He is in his first season as Jacksonville State’s head coach.

Kelly was special teams coordinator and safeties coach at Tennessee in 2018. He was hired by Nick Saban at Alabama after one season with the Vols.
