Myles McLaughlin’s senior season was nothing short of historic: he rushed for 4,846 yards and 71 touchdowns, breaking the national single-season record according to MaxPreps, earning that organization’s Indiana Player of the Year honors. He signed with Murray State to continue his football journey.
As such, McLaughlin is a finalist for the ALL-USA Midwest Region Football Team, which also makes him a finalist for the national ALL-USA Football Team. Both of those teams will be announced later this month.
The Story of Myles McLaughlin
In the small town of Knox, Indiana, Friday nights became legendary thanks to McLaughlin, the senior quarterback who redefined dominance.
Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 190 pounds, McLaughlin was a dual-threat athlete who carried his team to heights few thought possible. This season, McLaughlin led Knox to a 13-1 record and a Class 3A regional championship, cementing his place in Indiana football lore.
But it wasn’t just the wins that captured attention; it was the sheer statistical avalanche. McLaughlin rushed for 4,846 yards and 71 touchdowns, both of which set Indiana single-season records. To put that in perspective, he nearly eclipsed Derrick Henry’s famed career high school rushing mark, finishing third all-time, a feat that drew national headlines.
In ten of Knox’s fourteen games, McLaughlin ran for more than 300 yards, a consistency that bordered on the surreal.
Gatorade Player of the Year
His impact wasn’t limited to offense. On defense, McLaughlin contributed 66 tackles and eight interceptions, proving he was as versatile as he was explosive.
His 447 total points scored this season rank second all-time in U.S. high school football history. Recognition followed swiftly. McLaughlin was named the MaxPreps Indiana High School Football Player of the Year and also earned the Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year award.
Murray State commitment
Recruitment buzz surrounded McLaughlin throughout the fall. Ultimately, he committed to Murray State University. The Racers, who finished 1-11 in 2025, are in rebuilding mode under coach Jody Wright, and McLaughlin’s signing represents a cornerstone for their future.
His decision to join Murray State was celebrated as a chance for him to bring his record-setting talent to a program hungry for revival. Other schools showed interest, but McLaughlin’s choice reflected both loyalty and opportunity as he wanted to be part of a turnaround story.
Beyond the numbers, McLaughlin’s journey is compelling because of his resilience and leadership. He wasn’t just a stat machine; he was the emotional heartbeat of Knox football. His teammates rallied around his relentless drive, and his performances became a source of pride for the entire community. Fans packed stadiums to witness history.
As McLaughlin transitions to college football, questions naturally arise: Can his high school dominance translate to the next level? While FCS competition will be tougher, his combination of speed, vision, and toughness suggests he has the tools to thrive.
