IFCA tabs 9 Bloomington area players for all-state football honors

Bloomington South’s Jalen Williams added one more big catch to his résumé, named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Top 50 All-State Team.
The top 25 players on offense and defense from across the state included just six from south of the Indianapolis area.
Williams, who recently signed with Cincinnati, was the Panthers’ top receiver with 59 catches for 1,021 yards and 15 touchdowns. His receptions are No. 6 all-time for a season at South, the yardage is No. 3 and the TD catches are tied for second.
The IFCA also announced its Junior and Senior All-State Teams for Classes 1-6A.
Named to the Class 5A Senior All-State were South’s offensive lineman Wes Fulford, running back Braylen Townsend and linebacker Ross Ogden and Bloomington North’s defensive end Lucas Rice and defensive back Luke Freel.
The 5A Junior All-State Team included South quarterback Duncan Combs at an athlete position and defensive back Rylan Stikeleather.
In Class 3A, named Junior All-State was Edgewood’s Lincoln Getts at offensive line, the first Mustang named all-state since Tristan Bland in 2019.
Townsend and Ogden were named Junior All-State last year. Townsend ran for 1,267 yards and 18 scores this year, giving him 3,621 for his career, No. 3 all-time for the Panthers. Ogden, a Northern Illinois signee, had 96 tackles, 16 for loss and five sacks.
Rice was No. 2 in tackles for the Cougars with 97 and No. 1 in the area in tackles for loss (27) and sacks (nine). Freel had 55 tackles and four interceptions, handled kickoff returns and caught 16 passes for 189 yards and three TDs.
Combs tossed for 2,420 yards (fourth best in school history) and 26 touchdowns. Stikeleather had 59 tackles and three interceptions before an injury kept him out of the postseason.
Getts played up front on offense and defense, collecting 74 tackles, 12 for loss, nine sacks and three fumbles caused.
