Chase Keaton will be a legend forever at Pomona High School.
The junior kicker booted a game-winning 40-yard field goal as time expired to lift No. 2 Pomona over No. 1 Windsor to win the Colorado Class 3A football state championship game 17-14 on Dec. 6.
It was one of the most dramatic finishes in CHSAA football title-game history.
And talk about a gutsy kick.
From 40 yards out, game on the line and a championship in the balance.
All Keaton did was split the uprights, with an easy 10 yards to spare in about the most perfect high school kicking operation — from snap to hold to attempt — you'll ever see.
"Low key, I was really scared. I knew everyone was with me. Everyone was going to breathe with me. And, even if I didn't make it, I knew my (teammates) could handle it in overtime," Keaton said.

This was a storybook ending for Keaton and the Panthers.
The junior didn't even start placekicking until this past offseason after playing soccer since he was 3 years old.
Pomona needed a more reliable kicker, as some missed kicks cost the Panthers several times last season, including in a 3A semifinal loss to Mead.
So head coach Nate Johnson convinced Keaton to join the football program. Who knew it would lead to this?
"I've been practicing for this for about a year-and-a-half now. This is my first year of kicking. It's all amazing. It's a new experience, for sure. But, I trusted my holder, trusted myself and trusted God.
"I knew the kick was going to be all good."
Safe to say Keaton was the right man for the job, sealing Pomona's third-ever state championship and first since 2017.
