ATLANTA —Malachi Toliver appears in line for his second college start with Georgia football.
The redshirt freshman from Cartersville was working as the first-team center in place of an injured Drew Bobo at Mercedes-Benz Stadium before the SEC Championship game against Alabama on Saturday Dec. 6.
Toliver started against Charlotte two weeks ago and then played in the second half against Georgia Tech last week when Bobo did not return to the game after sustaining a foot injury in the first half.
Georgia also could turn to true freshman Cortez Smith and starting right guard Dontrell Glover, who could slide over to center. Smith was snapping to Ryan Puglisi as the No. 2 center and Glover to Ryan Montgomery as the No. 3 in pregame warmups.
“Malachi Toliver has played, Cortez has played,” coach Kirby Smart said Saturday morning on ESPN’s College GameDay. “It’s one of those things where we’ve got some experience there. Gunner’s really comfortable with those guys. And, look, we train those guys. They’ve been down on the scout team going against some good players the last couple of years.”
