No. 3 Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0 SEC) will continue its three-game road trip after the bye week, set to face No. 19 Missouri in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, as the Aggies look to stay undefeated before consecutive home games against South Carolina and Samford.
However, before the season began, head coach Mike Elko expected to face Missouri starting quarterback Beau Pribula. Still, after the senior’s lower-body injury that will sideline him for Saturday’s game and beyond, the Aggies will now face freshman signal caller Matt Zollers, who, despite being inexperienced, was the 9th-ranked (247Sports) quarterback prospect in the 2025 cycle.
Texas A&M’s defense, which has smothered nearly every SEC opponent, headlined by a pass rush that has produced 32 sacks on the year, won’t be intimidated by Matt Zollers. In comparison, the Tigers‘ offensive line has already allowed 18 sacks on the year. If the Aggies pressure Zollers throughout the afternoon, I don’t see Missouri scoring many points.
However, on Monday, Mike Elko told reporters that he expects head coach Eli Drinkwitz to stick to his usual game script, as Zollers threw for 138 yards and a touchdown after Pribula went down in the Week 9 home loss to Vanderbilt.
The only difference is, I don’t know how much you can change the structure of the offense. When you get to this point of the system, and they’re coming off a bye week, so they’ll build that thing around him as best they can.”
“They’ll try to tailor it to him and what he does well… The 10 guys around him will step up and support him.”
If Zollers has time to throw, Texas A&M’s secondary, which has also performed well during SEC play, will need to limit explosive plays in the passing game, while Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy will be the Aggies’ primary focus, as the sophomore leads the SEC with 937 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
