Back in the middle of the regular season, Oregon Duck fans had to deal with something that they weren't accustomed to: a loss in the regular season.
The defeat came to the Indiana Hoosiers, one of the top teams in the nation, and while it stung at the time, ending Oregon's regular-season winning streak and nation-leading home winning streak, it might have been a blessing in disguise.
Because of that loss, the Ducks are now set up in a prime position as we enter the College Football Playoff. They didn't have to play an extra game in the Big Ten Conference Championship, and now they're set up with likely one of the most favorable seeds in the playoff, avoiding a first-round bye while getting a low-seeded team at Autzen Stadium in mid-December.
Here's a look at how the rest of the playoff field shook out on Selection Sunday:

College Football Playoff bracket: Who’s in, who’s out
For the most part, we left Saturday night with a pretty good idea of which teams would be in the playoffs and which teams would be on the outside looking in. However, the major question was whether the committee would give the nod to a two-loss Notre Dame Fighting Irish team, a two-loss Miami Hurricanes team, or a three-loss Alabama Crimson Tide team.
Ultimately, the committee chose to keep Alabama in at No. 9, not hurting them after getting blown out in the SEC Championship game. Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish also did not get in, with the Miami Hurricanes getting the nod.
