The Alabama Crimson Tide are heading to the 12-team College Football Playoff despite an ugly 28-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday.

That’s the biggest news and takeaway following the Crimson Tide’s performance Saturday in Atlanta.

Despite being held to just 209 yards of total offense and 11 first downs on the day by a terrific defensive effort by Georgia, Alabama (10-3) made the playoff as the No. 9 seed in the selection committee’s final rankings, unveiled Sunday.

As for the top 25 polls after conference championship week, here’s where Alabama sits in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll following its loss to SEC champion Georgia.

Where is Alabama football ranked in US LBM Coaches Poll entering CFP?

Alabama (10-3) is ranked No. 11 in the Week 16 US LBM Coaches Poll, down only one spot from last week. The Crimson Tide are ranked one spot below the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes (10-2) and two spots below No. 9 Notre Dame (10-2) in the last Coaches Poll ahead of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Alabama is the highest-ranked three-loss team in the polls, ahead of the No. 14 Texas Longhorns (9-3) and No. 16 USC Trojans (9-3).

Alabama football schedule 2025: Who will Crimson Tide play in CFP?

Alabama will face the Oklahoma Sooners (10-2) in the No. 9 vs. No. 8 seed matchup in the first round of the 2025 College Football Playoff on Friday, Dec. 19 at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. It’s a rematch from Week 12 in Tuscaloosa, a 23-21 Crimson Tide loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Kickoff for Alabama-Oklahoma is 7 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ABC and ESPN.

It’s the ninth time in program history that Alabama will play in the College Football Playoff, the most all-time appearances of any team, and the first time the Crimson Tide have reached the playoff under coach Kalen DeBoer.
