Central Michigan is coming to Detroit this holiday season.

The Chippewas will face the Northwestern Wildcats in the GameAbove Sports Bowl at Ford Field on Friday, Dec. 26.

The game will kick off the day after Christmas at 1 p.m. on ESPN.

It’s just the second time in history the two schools have played each other, as the Wildcats beat Central Michigan, 30-25, back in 2010 when current MSU coach Pat Fitzgerald was Northwestern’s coach. This is Northwestern’s second trip to Ford Field as they also played in the 2003 Motor City Bowl.

Led by coach Matt Drinkall in his first year at the helm, the Chippewas went 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the MAC, good enough to earn a spot in a bowl with a game to spare.

Northwestern, meanwhile, lost four of their final five games but still managed to make a bowl game thanks to four straight wins in the middle of the season over UCLA, Louisiana-Monroe, Penn State and Purdue. It’s the second bowl game under coach David Braun.
