With USC’s regular season slate in the books, we have been speculating as to the Trojans‘ bowl game destination. On Sunday, the matchup was officially revealed: USC will face San Antonio in the Alamo Bowl on December 30.
This will mark USC’s first ever trip to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl. Somehow, despite the fact that the game has taken the top non-College Football Playoff/New Year’s Six/BCS bowl from the Pac-12 since 2010, the Trojans have never played in it. (Although it should be noted that USC likely would have received an Alamo Bowl invitation in 2020 had the Trojans not declined to play in a bowl that season due to COVID.)
While the Trojans are now members of the Big Ten, USC is competing the game due to its prior relationship with the Pac-12. While the Pac-12 as we knew it effectively lost its status as a conference following the 2023 season, former Pac-12 schools are still competing in the conference’s bowls for 2024 and 2025 due to existing bowl game tie-ins. TCU, meanwhile, is a member of the Big 12.
USC is 2-3 all-time against TCU. The most recent meeting between the two programs came in the 1998 Sun Bowl, which the Trojans lost 28-19.
USC is 2-1 in bowl games under head coach Lincoln Riley. After losing to Tulane in the Cotton Bowl following the 2022 season, the Trojans defeated Louisville in the Holiday Bowl in 2023 and beat Texas A&M in the Las Vegas Bowl last year. USC will be going for its third consecutive bowl victory this year in San Antonio.
