Has Shane Beamer hired South Carolina football OC? Which jobs are open on 2026 staff

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer has three hires to make, all of which are on the offensive side of his staff.

Beamer went 4-8 with the Gamecocks during the 2025 season and lost two coaches along the way, firing offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley on Oct. 12 and coordinator/quarterback coach Mike Shula on Nov. 2. Most recently, Beamer fired Marquel Blackwell on Dec. 4.

The lack of an offensive coordinator or position coaches didn’t cause any high school players to change their plans as all 14 commits signed on Dec. 3-4. But the transfer portal opens Jan. 2.

Here’s a look at where Beamer’s South Carolina football staff for the 2026 season stands.

South Carolina football offense coordinator

Beamer will be making his fourth hire at this position. He hired Marcus Satterfield, then Dowell Loggains after Satterfield left, then Shula when Loggains left.

Wide receivers coach Mike Furrey served as interim play-caller the final three games of the season and went 1-2. Beamer said he’s considering all options for the position, including Furrey.

Beamer said Dec. 3 that he wasn’t going to rush the OC hire “just to say I hired an offensive coordinator to make sure I get this thing right, I realize it’s a crtical hire.”

He added he’s had good conversations with people for “a couple of weeks” and said there’s a lot of interest.

It’s a hire he has to nail considering how weak South Carolina’s offense was in 2025.  The Gamecocks averaged 22.7 points, 14th in the SEC, and finished 106th in total offense (336.3 yards) out of 134 FBS teams listed in the NCAA’s stats.

TCU’s Kendal Briles and ECU’s John David Baker have been mentioned on social media as potential candidates for the job.

South Carolina running backs coach

It’s likely a new OC could bring in a running back coach, but either way, Beamer let Blackwell go after two seasons.

South Carolina had second-worst run game in the SEC, averaging 111.1 yards. It was a major dropoff from Blackwell’s first year in 2024 when the Gamecocks had the fourth-best run game in the SEC at 184.4 yards.

South Carolina offensive line coach

Shawn Elliott was Beamer’s tight ends coach and run game coordinator before taking over as interim offensive line coach.

Elliott was on staff at South Carolina as an offensive line coach from 2010-16 before leaving for the Georgia State coaching job.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was sacked 42 times, 19 before Teasley was fired and 23 after. It’s another position Beamer needs to nail because since 2023, Beamer’s quarterbacks have had between the most and third-most sacks in the SEC.

Are there more potential job openings on Shane Beamer’s staff?

Receivers coach and tight ends coach would open if Beamer were to promote either Furrey or Elliott.

Beamer confirmed a potential option is to promote Elliott and look for a new tight ends coach, but that process isn’t as clear with Furrey, who stayed in charge of the wide receiver group while still calling the offense.

Ben Burress stepped in for Elliott when he shifted over and finished the season as the main voice of the tight end room.

Who is left on Shane Beamer’s coaching staff at South Carolina?

Just one year ago on Dec. 17, 2024, the board of trustees also approved several contract extensions for assistant coaches, including two that have been fired.

Blackwell was given a one-year contract extension and was paid $580,000. Teasley was given a two-year extension and was paid $675,000.

Here’s who is part of Beamer’s staff as of Dec. 8.
