What bowls are Ohio schools playing in? UC, OU, OSU, Toledo and Miami head to postseason

Ohio State isn’t the only Ohio team participating in the college football postseason. Obviously, the Buckeyes have the most at stake, because they are seeking to repeat as the College Football Playoff champions, but that’s not the only drama.
Ohio University has another game to play, and as of now Bobcats defensive coordinator John Hauser is set to lead the team for that one.
Toledo heads into a bowl game, not only with an interim coach (co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Robert Weiner), but the Rockets have also lost their defensive coordinator since the regular season ended.
Cincinnati started well but is looking to avoid ending the year on a five-game losing streak.
And Miami is seeking to do something it hasn’t done since 1975.
Here is a look at Ohio’s FBS teams that are still playing.
Ohio State Buckeyes (12-1)
- Destination: Cotton Bowl; Arlington, Texas
- Opponent: winner of No. 7 Texas A&M vs. No. 10 Miami (Fla.)
- Date and time: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 31
- TV: ESPN
Ohio State has never won back-to-back national titles. Ryan Day hopes to be the first Buckeyes coach to accomplish the feat, but first his team must shake off a 13-10 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten championship game.
Ohio University (8-4)
- Destination: Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl; Frisco, Texas
- Opponent: UNLV
- Date and time: 9 p.m. Dec. 23
- TV: ESPN
Ohio is looking for its fourth straight season with 9+ wins and hoping to extend its MAC-record bowl winning streak to seven, with previous victories in the Bahamas, Frisco, Potato, Arizona, Myrtle and Cure bowls. Pretty remarkable for a team that hadn’t even won a bowl game until 2011. However, Ohio has a coaching mystery on its hands. The school recently announced that head coach Brian Smith was being placed on leave but has yet to explain why the move was made.
Toledo Rockets (8-4)
- Destination: Bush’s Boca Raton Bowl of Beans; Boca Raton, Florida
- Opponent: Louisville
- Date and time: 2 p.m. Dec. 23
- TV: ESPN
The last time Toledo faced an ACC opponent in a bowl game was last year, when they topped Pittsburgh 48-46 in six overtimes of the GameAbove Sports Bowl. This season marks the Rockets’ fifth straight bowl trip, and they have some momentum. Down the stretch, Toledo recorded wins over Northern Illinois, Miami, Ball State and Central Michigan and never gave up more than nine points. In fact, Toledo is ranked third nationally in total defense. No surprise, then, that Syracuse has hired away Toledo defensive coordinator Vince Kehres. He’ll serve in the same capacity for the Orange. That news came on the heels of UConn’s announcement that it is hiring Toledo head coach Jason Candle. Candle replaces Jim Mora (now at Colorado State).
Cincinnati Bearcats (7-5)
- Destination: AutoZone Liberty Bowl; Memphis, Tennessee
- Opponent: Navy
- Date and time: 4:30 p.m. Jan. 2
- TV: ESPN
The Bearcats’ last win came on Oct. 25. That 41-20 rout of Baylor was followed by four losses. Cincinnati had still done enough to earn its first bowl invite since 2022 and will be looking for its first bowl victory since 2019, when UC topped Boston College 38-6 in the Birmingham Bowl. Navy leads the country in rushing yards per game (298.36) and is second in yards per carry (6.06), while Cincinnati is No. 3 in yards per carry (5.90).
Miami RedHawks (7-6)
- Destination: Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl; Tucson, Arizona
- Opponent: Fresno State
- Date and time: 4:30 p.m. Dec. 27
- TV: CW
Snopp Dogg can’t get enough of the Hawks. This is their second straight year playing in the Arizona Bowl. Last season they beat Colorado State 43-17. For that reason, Miami has a chance to do something it hasn’t since 1975: win bowl games in back-to-back seasons. (Miami won the Tangerine Bowl three years in a row starting in 1973.) Miami is coming off a 23-13 loss to Western Michigan in the MAC championship game.
