On Monday, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko spoke for the third time since the Aggies were selected to their first College Football Playoff appearance in program history, set to host No. 10 Miami (10-2) in Kyle Field on Saturday, December 20.

Outside of praising the Hurricane’s talented roster, led by starting quarterback Carson Beck and junior edge Rueben Bain, Elko provided a cryptic, but positive update regarding several star players, as TexAgs columnist Olin Buchanan, in his tracks, is asking about specific names.

However, senior running back Le’Veon Moss, who has missed the last five games, is the name that’s on every media member and Aggie fan’s mind heading into the CFP. Alongside the future NFL back, senior linebacker Scooby Williams and senior safety Bryce Anderson have also been sidelined for an extended period.

Moss’s importance to Texas A&M’s offense is unmatched, and starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who thrives in a balanced offense, needs a healthy running game to find success in play-action looks, which will also open up running lanes for the redshirt sophomore. So, how are all three players progressing heading into next Saturday’s matchup?

“They’re great. I knew exactly where we were going with that, and they all appear to be great.”

This has likely been the plan all along, knowing that Le’Veon Moss could have returned during the regular-season finale vs. Texas, but knowing that Texas A&M was a lock to make the CFP even with a loss, which did occur, Mike Elko was playing the long game, which will, hopefully, pay off.

Getting Scooby Williams and Bryce Anderson back will boost A&M’s run defense, which struggled immensely against the Longhorns.
