In the modified words of Alice Cooper, school's out for playoffs.
The University of Oklahoma announced Monday that in-person classes at the main campus in Norman would be cancelled on Friday, Dec. 19. OU plays Alabama that night in the College Football Playoff.
One bummer for students, though, is that instead of having their final pushed back, the finals are actually moved up. Some are moved up to as soon as Monday, Dec. 15.
So much for procrastination, eh?
The Sooners will be facing Alabama for the second time this season. Oklahoma won the intial meeting in Tuscaloosa back on Nov. 15, 23-21. That victory kept OU in the hunt for the playoff berth when a loss would have effectively eliminated its chance. Intead, Oklahoma won its next two games and qualified for the playoff as the No. 8-seed. Alabama is the No. 9 and the winner face No. 1 Indiana on Thursday, Jan. 1.
The only personnel that should bother with a school day on Dec. 19, in fact, are what the university termed essential personnel.
Unfortunately for students at OU-Tulsa, they'll have to go on with classes, unless that class is based out of the Norman campus. But, hey, there's still time to zip down Interstate 44 and south to catch the game afterward.
