The Oklahoma Sooners are less than two weeks away from their first-round game in the College Football Playoff at home against the Alabama Crimson Tide. One of the biggest games for the storied program in a long time is looming, and it comes against another one of college football’s blue blood programs. It should make for an electric atmosphere in Norman on that Friday night.
USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg gave his updated rankings of all 136 FBS teams in the aftermath of conference championship weekend and the CFP bracket release. Bowl season and the playoff are up next to wrap up what’s been an excellent season of college football.
Iowa State, Kansas State and Notre Dame all declined invitations to play in bowl games, and Appalachian State, Mississippi State and Rice were the teams eventually chosen to replace them. A host of other 5-7 teams also declined bowl invites, but the matchups are now set for the postseason.
Myerberg has the Sooners at No. 8 on his list, and that’s where they will enter the postseason in the playoff rankings as well. Indiana, the only undefeated FBS team to this point in 2025, is at No. 1 in the rankings, while UMass, the only winless team in the FBS this year, sits at No. 136.
OU was the fourth-highest ranked team in the SEC, and one of five teams from the league to make the CFP. That’s in comparison to three teams from the Big Ten, one team from the ACC, one team from the Big 12, one team from the American, and one team from the Sun Belt.
