The regime change in Lexington hasn't daunted Greater Cincinnati recruits.
In a Dec. 8 post on X, Covington Catholic senior quarterback Cash Harney announced his commitment to the Kentucky Wildcats. "I'm blessed and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Kentucky," Harney said in the post. Harney will be joining the Wildcats as a walk-on.
In his senior year at Covington Catholic, Harney threw for 1,648 yards, rushed for 754 yards, and had 63 yards receiving. He scored 22 total touchdowns as the Colonels finished the year at 9-3 in the state quarterfinals. Harney was also named Division 2 player of the year by the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association.
The Wildcats announced on Dec. 1 the dismissal of former coach Mark Stoops. Former Oregon offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Will Stein was hired to fill the coaching vacancy the very same day. A talented recruiter and offensive specialist, Stein also secured a signing from Moeller's Matt Ponatoski, a four-star quarterback per the 247Sports Composite.
With one quarterback already in the class, there is some question whether the dual-threat Harney will stay at quarterback or transition to another position.
Over the summer, at a University of Louisville football camp for top prospects, Harney actually worked out as a wide receiver. His speed and athleticism, combined with his 6-foot 185-pound frame, make him a versatile threat at any position.
