BATON ROUGE — A few key players for LSU football have been out or in and out of the lineup the last few games of the 2025 regular season.
Do coaches expect to get them back in time for LSU’s matchup with Houston in the Texas Bowl Dec. 27?
Tigers interim head coach Frank Wilson provided some clarity on the injury front to reporters Tuesday morning as the team get set to begin bowl game preparation Thursday. Senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, junior linebacker Whit Weeks and star cornerback Mansoor Delane won’t be available to play for LSU (7-5) in the bowl game against Houston (9-3).
Nussmeier has not played since the Alabama game Nov. 8, when he was benched in the second half, and missed the final three games of the regular season after reaggravating an abdominal strain he first suffered during preseason practice. Sophomore Michael Van Buren is slated to start his fourth straight game for the Tigers as he’s led them to two wins of the three contests.
Weeks suffered a broken ankle against South Carolina back on Oct. 11 and missed four games before playing sparingly in the last two contests. It’s unclear if Weeks has played his final game in an LSU uniform as Wilson said talks are ongoing between the two sides.
Delane has played through what he describes as a core injury for much of this season, but he only missed one game against Western Kentucky. Delane played the next week at Oklahoma as he recorded four tackles.
Nearly all NFL Draft experts predict Delane to be a first-round draft choice this coming April in the 2026 NFL Draft, so his missing the Texas Bowl makes sense as he gets set for the next level.
As for the rest of LSU’s injury report, junior center Braelin Moore “has a chance to play,” according to Wilson while wide receiver Aaron Anderson’s status is up in the air.
