COLUMBIA — South Carolina football is finalizing a deal to hire TCU’s Kendal Briles as coach Shane Beamer’soffensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and one player is already celebrating the news.
A little less than 24 hours after Thamel’s report, 2026 signee Landon Duckworth posted two photos on social media, both with Briles, one from his time at Arkansas and the other from TCU. The caption endorsed the hire if finalized, as Duckworth wrote “Coach @kendalbriles was the first coach to offer me! Let’s work @GamecockFB.”

South Carolina hasn’t made any announcement about Briles
Duckworth is a four-star quarterback from Alabama, who had interest from Arkansas, where Briles was the coordinator from 2020-22.
Beamer is making his fourth hire at the position in his five seasons with the Gamecocks. They went 4-8 this season, the worst record under his leadership.
Mike Shula was fired on Nov. 2 after less than one full year and wide receiver coach Mike Furrey called plays for the last three games of the season. Beamer promoted Shula from offensive analyst to coordinator last December when former Dowell Loggains was hired to coach Appalachian State.
Briles joined the TCU staff in January 2023 as associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. This will mark Briles’ seventh college offensive coordinator job. Before Arkansas, he worked at Baylor, Houston, FAU and Florida State.
Whether Briles will have quarterback LaNorris Sellers or not remains unclear, as Sellers hasn’t announced if he’s staying or declaring for the NFL draft.
