MADISON – Trech Kekahuna is headed to the transfer portal again.
On3 reported Wednesday, Dec. 10, that the agent for the Wisconsin Badgers redshirt sophomore receiver said Kekahuna intends to enter the transfer portal. He also entered the portal after last season but UW convinced him to change his mind.
Kekahuna didn’t make a post announcing his intention to transfer but he reposted the post about his impending transfer on his Instagram page. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The departure of Kekahuna is the most impactful loss the Badgers have suffered to the portal so far. The native of Hawaii was UW’s No. 1 slot receiver this season.
According to Pro Football Focus, he ranked third on the team with 44 targets, five behind Vinny Anthony and Lance Mason. But playing for an offense that ranks 133rd out of 134 teams in total offense, Kekahuna’s statistics suffered. His 26 catches were one more than last season but with 221 yards his average yards per catch dropped to 8.1 yards compared to 13.6 in 2024.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes tried getting him the ball with jet sweeps or tosses. As a result Kekahuna ranked fourth on the Badgers with 129 rushing yards in 14 carries, an average of 9.2 yards per attempt.
Grimes’ offense, however, was unable to consistenly unlock Kekahuna’s big-play potential in the passing game.
The portal will be officially open from Jan. 2-16.
