Sherrone Moore Was Just Detained By Police In Michigan Tonight

Fired Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore has been detained by police on Wednesday night.

Moore, who was fired for cause by the University of Michigan on Wednesday night, was reportedly taken into police custody in Michigan, according to ESPN college football insider Dan Wetzel. Moore was detained by police Saline, Michigan – a town south of Ann Arbor – before being turned over to police in Pittsfield Township.

ESPN college football insiders Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel confirmed the breaking story.

"Breaking: Ex-Michigan coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police in Saline, Mich. this evening and turned over to police in Pittsfield Township for investigation into potential charges," they reported.

Moore, who took over for legendary Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh after the 2023 season, was fired for cause for an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, according to the school.

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately," the school announced in a statement.

Michigan, meanwhile, is now tasked with the job of finding a new head football coach. Moore, meanwhile, seems to be facing a much more serious task of staying out of legal trouble.

This is certainly not how Michigan imagined its 2025 football season would come to an end.
