It’s been a difficult time for Notre Dame football with being able to keep linebacker coaches during Marcus Freeman’s tenure.

Al Golden doubled as the defensive coordinator along with LB coach in 2022, the first full season with Freeman at the helm. As we all know, he left for the NFL during last offseason, as he took over the Cincinnati Bengals defense after winning the Broyles Award.

However, prior to Golden leaving for the pro’s, Max Bullough was elevated from graduate assistant to linebackers coach. It’s been a very successful tenure for the former All-Big Ten performer at Michigan State, but unfortunately, it has come to an end.

Jim Comparoni of SpartanMag.com is reporting that Bullough has been hired back to this alma mater as the co-defensive coordinator and linebacker coach as Pat Fitzgerald was recently hired to lead the program. This is a big loss for the Irish, as in the two years that he’s overseen the room, there’s been some great play from players like Jack Kizer, Drayk Bowen, Jaiden Ausberry, Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa or pretty much any linebacker that gets on the field.

Bullough will be difficult to replace, but as we have seen Freeman do before, he does a great job finding personnel that fits the Notre Dame program.
