Shane Beamer hires Randy Clements as South Carolina offensive line coach

COLUMBIA — South Carolina's board of trustees approved the hiring of Randy Clements as the offensive line coach for Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer on Dec. 11.
It's a 2-year contract with a base salary of $725,000. This move comes the same day that South Carolina hired Kendal Briles as its new offensive coordinator, who worked with Clements at TCU this season. The board also approved the hiring of Stan Drayton, who was at Penn State, as running backs coach.
Clements was Briles' assistant offensive line coach but has spent time as the main OL coach at various spots since 1986. He was also at Baylor as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach with Briles, both working under coach Art Briles, Kendal's father.
This won't be Clements first job in the SEC, as he spent the 2020 season as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Ole Miss.

Beamer fired Lonnie Teasley after in the middle of his third season with the program, the first of three offensive coaches Beamer let go this season. The Gamecocks finished 4-8, the worst in five seasons with Beamer.
Clements was the assistant offensive line coach for A.J. Ricker at TCU this season and their unit allowed quarterback Josh Hoover to get sacked just 18 times this season.
Interim coach Shawn Elliott took over for Teasley and combined, quarterback LaNorris Sellers was sacked a total of 42 times, the second most in the nation.
A lack of protection isn't a new issue at South Carolina under Beamer. Since 2023, Beamer's quarterbacks have had between the most and third-most sacks in the SEC. His first two seasons, his quarterbacks were sacked 30 (2021) and 31 times (2022).
It's unclear as of Dec. 11 if Sellers is returning or declaring for the NFL draft but regardless, quarterback protection will be a key thing Clements needs to improve in 2026.
