Fired Tennessee defensive coordinator Tim Banks already has a new job under Alex Golesh at Auburn, according to numerous reports.

Banks will serve as Auburn safeties coach.

Golesh, the new Auburn coach, and Banks were UT coordinators together on Josh Heupel's staff in 2021-22. Golesh was UT's offensive coordinator, which landed him the South Florida head coaching job in 2023. Banks was UT's defensive coordinator until he was fired on Dec. 8.

They also coached together at Illinois from 2012-15, when Golesh was tight ends coach and Banks was defensive coordinator.

Golesh is building an experienced staff with three former defensive coordinators. DJ Durkin was retained as Auburn's defensive coordinator. Former Mississippi State defensive coordinator Cameron Hutzler was hired as Auburn outside linebackers coach.

And Banks was a defensive coordinator for more than 15 years at Cincinnati (2010-11), Illinois (2012-15), Penn State (2016-20) and Tennessee (2021-25).

Auburn plays at Tennessee in the 2026 season. The date of the game will be announced during the SEC Schedule Reveal Show on Dec. 11 (8 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
