Former Michigan Wolverines' head coach, Sherrone Moore, was fired as the Wolverines coach late on Wednesday night.
Moore was fired with cause, and the stories surrounding the firing are all alleged at this point. The details regarding the firing and arrest are intense in nature and very sad, if they are true.
His final game as the Michigan head coach was the 27-9 loss at the hands of head coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Moore took over for former head coach Jim Harbaugh before the start of last season. He coached one game in 2023 when Jim Harbaugh served his suspension for the Michigan cheating scandal.
In 2024, Moore led the Wolverines to an 8-5 record with his signature win in Columbus when Michigan upset the Buckeyes 13-10 in a game that shocked the country. In 2025, the Wolverines were on the fringe of being a competitive team all year long, beating teams they were supposed to defeat. But when Michigan had played up in competition, the program got beat.
The loss to Ohio State was the perfect example. The Buckeyes got off to a slow start, and the Wolverines couldn't pull away. Ohio State quickly came back, took the lead, and soundly put the Wolverines down.
This would be the final time that Moore would be the coach of the Wolverines.
His final record at Michigan was a mediocre 18-8 with a 1-0 record in the post season.
Moore's alleged scandal is the second major scandal in Michigan history in the last decade. As a descendant of the Harbaugh coaching tree, he copied his predecessor. Harbaugh's tenure in Michigan is not remembered for winning the National Championship, it is remembered for the most detailed cheating scandal in college football history.
The Wolverines designed and executed a detailed cheating scandal led by Connor Stallions, who used different avenues to steal and record opposing teams' signals. Michigan studied the signals and used its knowledge to take down the best of its opponents.
From there, seven of Harbaugh's staff members got arrested, several of them with DUI's and two of them, including Moore, were arrested for forms of sexual abuse.
Moore's firing from Michigan sets the table for a total reset in the Michigan program. Rumors are swirling that Athletic Director Warde Manuel is also in danger of losing his job. If that is the case, Michigan will have the opportunity to completely reset its program with new leadership and a fresh coach.
Wednesday in Ann Arbor is one of those days when you always remember where you were when the news broke.
Sherrone Moore, out as the Michigan head coach, and the Wolverines are back to square one with their program.
