Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) is headed to the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, set to host Miami (FL) (10-2) on Saturday, December 20, in the first round, which will take place inside what should be a sold-out Kyle Field.

During the Aggies’ historic regular-season run, head coach Mike Elko and his veteran team defeated LSU 49-25, winning in Baton Rouge for the first time since 1994, and just 24 hours after the blowout victory, the Tigers moved on from head coach Brian Kelly after less than four full seasons, eventually landing Lane Kiffin out of Ole Miss.

Kiffin, who is well respected as one of the top offensive minds in the game, is also one of the more polarizing figures in college football. While the news surrounding Sherrone Moore’s exit from Michigan has taken over the airwaves, Lane Kiffin’s reported $91 million LSU contract will be the talk of the offseason.

Taking over an LSU program that will finish no better than 8-5 this season, Kiffin has his work cut out for him, but recruiting and landing players from the transfer portal shouldn’t be an issue given the Tigers’ blue-blood status. However, veteran quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will not play in the Texas Bowl against Houston, ending his LSU career.

Former Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren will start in Nussmeier’s place, but after that, who knows who LSU’s starting signal caller will be in 2026?

You can’t keep Lane Kiffin from tweeting, as we’ve all learned over the years, as Texas A&M’s star quarterback Marcel Reed’s recent interview on Robert Griffin’s podcast included a question about Kiffin’s large contract, which the redshirt sophomore responded comically, “Shoot if $91 Million for 7 years was in front of my face I would not pass it up.”

Kiffin quote-tweeted the video, sending his official pitch for Reed to join him in Baton Rouge, and no one, I mean, no one is surprised. Well, that’s going to be tough, knowing that Marcel Reed announced that he will return to College Station next season after throwing for 2,932 yards and 25 touchdowns, helping lead the Aggies to the CFP.
