While we wait for game week for the Texas A&M Aggies, we were treated to a glimpse into the future with the release of the much-anticipated 2026 SEC schedule. On Thursday night, a longer-than-necessary schedule reveal debuted the nine-conference game slate along with the home and away matchups. Everyone complaining about the SEC not playing nine conference games can now stop their bellyaching.
At first glance, two things stand out overall for the league: the difficulty of schedules appears more balanced, and the competitive landscape feels tighter. Of course, we have no idea who will ultimately rise to the top, but based on what we saw this season, the schedules look more evenly distributed.
Additionally, there will only be one bye week, which is a tough break if you still consider the SEC the premier league with the deepest pool of blue-chip talent. There will be no easy path, and it will be a true grind. Depending on whether the CFP decides not to expand, many SEC teams could find themselves on the outside looking in more often than before.
As for the Aggies, they did an excellent job of capitalizing on this season’s favorable schedule to punch their ticket to the CFP, because the 2026 slate on paper is considerably tougher from an opponent standpoint. However, a major positive is that there are no back-to-back away games, meaning Kyle Field will not sit dormant for consecutive weeks. Like everything, there are pros and cons to this schedule, but when it comes down to it, the grind will define the season. Spot the ball.
Below are some of the reactions to the 2026 Texas A&M schedule.
Aggie will not have to play back-to-back road games in 2026
Texas A&M won’t have to play road games in back-to-back weeks at any point of the season. The only back-to-back road games for the Aggies – at Alabama (10/24) and at South Carolina (Nov. 7) – is separated by an idle week on Oct. 31. https://t.co/L7RZw2dd5c

Tough on paper, but favorable scheduling overall
Think that the Aggies’ schedule for next season is much more balanced and fair than this season’s.
Definitely a harder conference schedule on paper, but they have some well-needed breaks after a eight-week stretch to start the season.

Only one bye week is going to take some time to get use too
SEC moving to 9 league games in a single-bye season is going to be brutal

A fast start will be important next season
The teams are hard, obviously.
November is brutal.
The home away placement, BYE week placement, and Citadel placement are favorable.

There is still a lot to like about the schedule
A lot of things to like about how the schedule worked out
>Kentucky to start SEC play
>LSU early and after they play Ole Miss
>Citadel before Bama while Bama plays UGA week before
>Bye after Bama
>SC late. If season goes south Beemer might be gone
>No consecutive weeks on road— MarcAg (@MarcAg_) December 12, 2025

Coach Moffitt might earn a raise after next season
A&M not having a bye week until week 9 (10/31) is a bit insane…
Coach Moffitt’s gonna have to have the guys in as good of shape as ever

A&M gets Halloween off
Schedule is fine. Love that the off week is Halloween having little kids. Only thing I don’t like is OU before Texas on a short week but that’s fine too https://t.co/YkTxBn2sm2
