Julian Sayin and the Ohio State Buckeyes are still fresh off of the disappointment from losing the Big Ten championship game against the Indiana Hoosiers.
In what was a hotly-contest matchup between arguably the two best teams in college football, the the Buckeyes made too many mistakes and lost by a final score of 13-10. Despite the loss, it is clear that Ohio State has a very legitimate chance to make a run to a second straight championship.
Many things went wrong for the Buckeyes against Indiana. Whether it was Sayin getting stopped short on a quarterback sneak on fourth down or Jayden Fielding missing a chip shot field goal, Ohio State did not bring its best to the field.
Throughout the course of the game, Sayin put together a decent performance. He completed 21 of his 29 pass attempts for 258 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. It wasn't his best performance, but it wasn't a poor outing for him either.
Following the loss, Sayin spoke out with a very strong and blunt statement.
“It starts with me,” Sayin said. “I got to be better for us as an offense so we can do that and execute better. We got to score more points. Our defense played well enough for us to win the game, so as an offense, we got to be better in those areas.”
Just like last season, the Buckeyes have some soul-searching to do heading into the College Football Playoff. Despite the loss, Ohio State holds the No. 2 seed in the playoff picture.
Sayin is 100 percent right though. In order for the Buckeyes to win a second national title in a row, he will need to power them there. Ohio State cannot afford for Sayin to have an off night in the playoff.
Thankfully, just like last season, there is nothing to panic about surrounding the Buckeyes. There is no question at all that Ohio State has the talent to win it all.
Ryan Day is one of the best head coaches in football. He will have the Buckeyes ready to play against the winner of the Texas A&M and Miami game.
There is a reason Sayin is a Heisman Trophy finalist this season. He'll be ready to play. The loss to the Hoosiers will simply motivate Sayin and Ohio State more.
