For the second time in Dunham football history, the Tigers are champions.
From start to finish, they dominated Calvary Baptist at the Caesars Superdome, snagging their first LHSAA Select DIII state championship since 2004 with a 34-17 victory over the Cavaliers
At the helm of all the Superdome glory was five-star quarterback Elijah Haven, who lived up to his 2025 Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year title. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, Haven opened up the game running through Cavs defenders, rushing for a 15-yard touchdown.
Haven was just getting started, though, carrying a chip on his shoulder from the Tigers’ visit to the Dome last year. They lost this same game then to Catholic-New Iberia. This go-round, Haven and company left no doubt, building up a lead in the first half and never looking back.
The dual-threat junior ended the game rushing for well over 200 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. He ended the night with over 400 total yards of offense, earning him the title of the Most Outstanding Player of the Game. One of his go-to targets throughout the game was senior wide receiver Jarvis Washington, who had more than 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
Most of the time Haven needed a big gain in the air, Washington answered the call. If it wasn’t him, do-it-all senior Trevor Haman got the job done. Haman moved the chains on the ground for the Tigers and came up with their lone takeaway of the game on a first-half interception.
While the Tigers had it their way on the biggest stage of high school football in The Boot, Calvary Baptist struggled to get its offense going. Sophomore quarterback Hudson Price had Tiger defenders crowding the box all night long. After opening the game with a 20-yard touchdown shovel pass to wide receiver Braylun Huglon in the first quarter, the Cavs went cold for the rest of the half.
In the end, the Tigers’ swarming defense and explosive offense would land them the hardware, ending their season 13-1. The Cavs will have a long trip back to Shreveport with a 12-2 finish to the 2025 season.
