Four Tennessee student-athletes were named to the 2025 Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team: Ty Redmond, David Sanders Jr., Edwin Spillman and Braylon Staley.
Redmond, a true freshman cornerback, is the only player in the league to be named to the All-SEC Team and All-Freshman Team. He totaled 39 tackles, one tackle for a loss, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. His 13 passes defended are tied for first in the SEC, while his 10 pass breakups lead all Power Four freshmen in the nation.
Sanders Jr. appeared in eight games, including five starts. He helped Tennessee record 504 yards of total offense against Kentucky and 452 yards against Florida. Sanders Jr. played 49 snaps against Alabama without allowing a quarterback pressure, while earning an 81.4 pass-block grade from Pro Football Focus.
Spillman, a redshirt freshman linebacker, led SEC freshmen, true or redshirt, with 80 total tackles. He played in 12 games, including five consecutive starts to end the regular season. Spillman totaled 3.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks. He had a career-high 15 tackles against Kentucky and recorded his first career interception against Oklahoma.
Staley, a redshirt freshman wide receiver, was named SEC Freshman of the Year. He is the third Tennessee player to earn the honor, joining Peyton Manning (1994) and Jamal Lewis (1997).
Staley ranked sixth in the SEC in passing yards (806) and receiving yards per game (67.2), leading all freshmen in the league. He totaled six touchdown receptions, leading all freshmen in the SEC.
