Alabama football linebacker Justin Jefferson has his eye on a lengthy NFL career that should begin next season, but when he hangs up his cleats for good, he’s got no intention of hanging up the game.

Jefferson is among the Crimson Tide players graduating this weekend, and will receive his degree in sports management, which he intends to eventually parlay into a coaching position at the high school level.

“When I’m done with football, hopefully I’ve had kids and can coach my son,” Jefferson said. “(I could) coach little league all year, but I want to stop in high school, though. I feel like it’s too much in college football.”

Reminded that the college and pro ranks are where coaches can make big money, Jefferson said he’s hopeful his career in the NFL will make money a non-issue by the time his playing days are done. He played his high school ball at Memphis (Tenn.) Bartlett before moving on to Pearl River Community College. Now, in his third season and final season with the Crimson Tide, he’s taking a humble approach to his graduation accomplishment.

“I just read in the Bible, when good stuff happens to you, you don’t want to become proud about it,” he said. “So I’m not going to be proud. But I feel like a guy from where I’m from, doing this, I feel like it’s a blessing.”
