Florida football coach Jon Sumrall is continuing to fill out his new staff.

The Florida Gators are set to hire Phil Trautwein as their new offensive line coach, according to multiple reports, bringing back a former UF standout with extensive Power 4 conference coaching experience.

Trautwein, 39, was a two-time All-SEC selection and two-time team captain as a left tackle at Florida, earning first-team honors in 2008 and second-team accolades in 2006. He was a key cog on offensive lines that led Florida to national titles both those seasons.

From there, Trautwein developed into a successful coach, beginning as a graduate assistant at Boston College (2013-15) followed by a stint at Davidson (2016-17). He returned to Boston College to serve as an offensive line coach for two seasons (2018-19) before landing at Penn State (2020-25).

At Boston College and Penn State, Trautwein helped develop 31 all-conference offensive linemen and eight offensive linemen taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. That included a pair of All-Americans, guard Chris Lindstrom (Boston College) and tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu (Penn State).

Trautwein offered a hint of the hire on social media on Friday, December 12.

Trautwein joins offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner (Georgia Tech) and defensive coordinator Brad White (Kentucky) as the third coach on Sumrall's staff with significant Power 4 conference experience.
