Florida football is set to hire UCF defensive backs coach Brandon Harris as its new defensive backs coach, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Under the 35-year-old Harris, UCF's secondary contributed to a pass defense that ranked 25th in the country, allowing an average of 185.1 yards.
Harris played three seasons at cornerback for Miami (2008-10) before going on to a five-year NFL career with the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins.
After one season in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts, Harris began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at FIU in 2019, then as an analyst at Florida State in 2020. He became cornerbacks coach at FIU in 2021, then moved on to Florida Atlantic, where he served as cornerbacks coach, co-defensive coordinator and interim defensive coordinator from 2022-24 before joining UCF's staff in 2025.
Harris was being pursued by FSU for its defensive backs position but chose instead to join the staff of new Florida Gators coach Jon Sumrall. He joins offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner (Georgia Tech), defensive coordinator Brad White (Kentucky) and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein (Penn State) as the fourth new hire on UF's staff. Florida has also retained defensive line coach Gerald Chatman.
