After finishing sixth in Heisman Trophy voting and being voted the Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year, Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith was not selected as the best wide receiver in college football in 2025.

Buckeyes fans are not pleased.

The distinction belongs to USC’s Makai Lemon, who won the 2025 Biletnikoff award after leading the Big Ten in receiving yards with 1,156. Lemon tied Smith in receiving touchdowns but averaged a yard more per reception and had 70 more yards in the regular season.

Injuries also hurt Smith’s chances to win the award, as he missed a game against Rutgers and half a game against UCLA. Lemon did not miss a game. Smith ended up playing a 12th game in the Big Ten championship, snagging eight receptions for 144 yards against Indiana.
