AUBURN — Another former Auburn football assistant coach is returning to the Plains in 2026, as the program announced Saturday, Dec. 13, that West Virginia running backs coach Larry Porter would fill the same role on Alex Golesh‘s coaching staff.
Porter joins Kodi Burns as Golesh assistants who previously coached the Tigers. Porter was Auburn‘s recruiting coordinator and coached both running backs and tight ends from 2017 to 2020. Burns spent six seasons on Auburn staffs between two stints, last working for the program from 2016 to 2020.
“Larry Porter is a great fit for our staff,” Golesh said in a release. “When you look at his résumé, you see an top-level coach who’s developed elite talent everywhere he’s been and recruited at the highest level. He’s a true professional who understands what it takes to win in the SEC. Larry is going to help our running backs maximize every ounce of their potential. I couldn’t be more excited to have him, and his family join us on The Plains.”

Running backs coach has been in Porter’s title for all but one of his stops since 1998, with the only exception being his two seasons as Memphis head coach. He has spent six seasons at North Carolina, but Porter has also coached at Arizona State, Texas and LSU.
