Ohio State football will have to wait at least another year to end its Heisman Trophy drought.

Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin was the fourth-place finisher in the 2025 Heisman Trophy race on Saturday, Dec. 13 during the award ceremony inside Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room in New York City.

Beating out Sayin for the honor was Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, with Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia finishing as the runner-up and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love in third.

Sayin, the 6-foot-1 quarterback, is the first Ohio State player to be named a Heisman Trophy finalist since Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2023, and the seventh Buckeye to receive the invite to New York since 2018. This season, Sayin has led the Buckeyes to a 12-1 overall record and a No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff.

No, Sayin did not win the Heisman Trophy in 2025. The Ohio State quarterback came in fourth place in the Heisman Trophy race. He finished 1,960 points behind Mendoza.
