Jeremiyah Love put together one of the more impressive regular season running back campaigns in Notre Dame’s storied history this season.
However, it wasn’t enough to hoist the Heisman Trophy in New York City.
The Fighting Irish’s star running back finished in third place at the Heisman Trophy awards ceremony inside Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room in New York on Saturday, Dec. 13. He was beaten out by a duo of quarterbacks — with Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza winning it all — for college football’s highest individual award. He finished ahead of Ohio State’s Julian Sayin.
He was the first Notre Dame player to be invited to New York for the annual award ceremony since Manti Te’o in 2012, and the sixth overall Fighting Irish player to be named a finalist for the award.
Love broke Jerome Bettis’ single-season record for most touchdowns in a season this year at 21, with the breakdown of 18 rushing and three receiving scores. He finished his junior campaign with 1,372 rushing yards, which ranks fourth among all Division I FBS players.
