Two weeks ago the Michigan Wolverines had a lead over the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes. Today they're searching for a new head coach while preparing for the Citrus Bowl.
Following the firing of Sherrone Moore in the middle of this past week, assistant coach Biff Poggi was promoted to interim head coach for their bowl game. Poggi hasn't spoken much since the change, but he took to X on Saturday for the first time since mid-November to share a message of support for the team.
Poggi made it clear that everyone on the team is staying together and strong amid the
"Pulling together, staying together. WE ARE TOGETHER! GoBlue," Poggi wrote.

Coaching for his job?
Poggi has already won two games for the Wolverines while serving as acting head coach in place of Moore this season. He also has recent head coaching experience (6-16 in two seasons at Charlotte from 2023 to 2024).
There's certainly a scenario where the school decides to just give him the job after the bowl game if the team performs well for him. That's what LSU did in 2016 after naming Ed Orgeron the interim head coach and that seemed to work out well for them.
Even if Poggi doesn't earn the full-time head coaching job, there's a chance that he earns a spot on the coaching staff under the next regime that takes over. We've seen that happen plenty of times too.
The Citrus Bowl isn't until December 31 though and you would think that the Wolverines want to make a final decision on their next head coach in a week or two, not three weeks or more.
But difficult times call for difficult decisions.
Will Poggi rally the Wolverines to finish the year with a win?
